How to Make a No-Sew, Washable Chair Cushions in Under 5 Minutes

Have that uncomfortable chair with no padding that no one wants to sit in? Or maybe you found a cool-looking chair at a garage sale that’s far from functional.

Another reason I love this easy DIY project is it allows you change the look and style of your chair by simply changing the “cushion cover” itself as you can see with another chair I found at a local Goodwill for $6.  ​

Once you have the items needed (which we’ll get to in a moment), this design solution takes less than two minute.

The cost ranges from FREE if you already have the items needed (listed below) in your home... or up to $40 if you need to purchase everything.

Items Needed

• 1 - queen-size pillow (20 x 30 inches)
• 1 - throw pillow or throw pillow insert (20 x 20 inches)
• 1 - body pillow cover with zipper (20 x 54 inches). Best if has a soft texture like a sherpa, shaggy faux fur (fuzzy), faux “long hair”,  or plush fuzz. And make sure it's "machine washable and tumble dry".
• And of course, the single-seater chair you're cushioning.

For best results, create for a chair with armrests, keeping the cushion in place.

Instructions

Once you have the items needed…

• ​Insert queen-size pillow in body pillow case

• Insert 20” square throw pillow (or pillow) insert in body pillow case inline with queen-size pillow​​

• Zip body pillow case

• Crease cushion where two pillow (inserts) meet inside body pillow case
