DIY Closet Organizing Ideas for Winter Accessories

Tired of those annoying scavenger hunts for the right hat or those orphan gloves?

​Enjoy the freedom and efficiency of quick access to what you need as you hurry out the door with this FREE item found at your local grocery store. My mom taught me this one.

Once you’ve sorted you hats, scarves, and gloves, less than 15 minutes.(Time also dependent on number of hats, gloves, and scarves.)

Suggested Workspace

You need an ample space for organizing and sorting for keeping, donating, tossing. The top of the bed or stairs works well.

Material/ Tools Needed for Project

  • Cardboard wine cases with dividers available for the asking for FREE at you local grocery store. Number of wine case depends on number of items… or family members. And figure 1 cardboard wine case per 12 to 16 items.
  • Clothespins or chip clips (for smaller or less bulky gloves and mittens.​

Simple Instructions

  • Sort items by keep, donate, toss
  • Sort and group items by type (scarves, hats, gloves) or by family member… whatever works best for you.
  • Place each item in a respective divided space in the case with an identifiable part of the hat, scarf, or gloves visible
  • Note: Fold over dividers to allow more space for bulkier items (as shown).

  • Note: For smaller gloves and mittens, use a clothes pin or chip clip (as shown) to attach to box or divider.

  • Place (or stack) cases on shelf in (coat) closet.
